So, I was thinking: you just never know when someone would LOVE to send you a Crappy Day Package, but they are discouraged because they don't know where to start. And it isn't NEARLY as much fun to send a package if you've just had to ASK the person what sorts of things they'd like, so I thought we could get a list going in the comments section of this post! Then, when somebody wants to send you a CDP, they can come check the comments and see if you've left any helpful information =)!
Now, you are welcome to mention specific things that you like, without feeling like you are obligating anyone to give you those things, because all sorts of information could prove to be helpful.
For instance, I could tell you that my VERY! FAVORITE!
Another example: Swistle had mentioned that she liked See's Candies, so when I saw a
And: I know a dear, sweet person who likes owls. A few weeks ago I came across a cute set of owls that were actually a salt and pepper shaker, a sugar holder (I think) and cream holder (I think). I sent them to her, and it sounds like they were a nice surprise =).
Final example: Knowing that
Beautiful blues! I LOVE blue!! |
This isn't quite so blinding in person. TEN skeins of Christmas red with a silver sparkly running through it! I LOVE sparklies!! |

What a good idea! And what great questions! It's like a Crappy Day Present Registry! (I LOVE registries: even if I don't buy something off the registry, it gives me such a good idea of what they might like.) I'm not adding myself to the registry because I have already received way more than my fair share of Crappy Day Presents from a variety of sources, and it is definitely someone else's turn!
That See's bag was SUCH a huge success. It's one of my favorite things. And I get to see it all the time, because I'm getting better and better at remembering to bring my reusable bags with me, and I also use it for "things I want to remember to bring to my parents' house the next time we go over."
Favorite part of this post: "It can be a tricky thing to get YOURSELF a Crappy Day Present, if you are going for the element of surprise." I just bought myself the Bloopers box from Russell Stover for a similar effect: I know what it is, but I don't know WHAT IT IS.
I know another thing that might fix the commenting: switch from embedded comment form to pop-up. I had the embedded on my site and had TONS of problems with it (even though other people have it and I can use THEIRS just fine---WHY??), and tons of my readers said THEY were having problems with it, so I switched to pop-up and now it's rare that I hear that someone's having trouble.
I feel kind of shy answering this, but here goes...
• What is your favorite color? I love teal. Like a light beachy teal. But I am also a big fan of all things green. To wear, I like pink/purple/red/magenta colors.
• What is your favorite season? Oh, I love fall the best. But I have affection for Spring flowers and growing and gardening and Winter holiday celebrating as well.
• What is your favorite treat? Cake. Mmmm, Cake. All kinds. My weakness is baked goods.
• What is your favorite scent? Vanilla. I think of it as my signature.
• What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism? Books. If I am really stressed out, I can relax into a story. If I DON’T have a story, I get irritable. I think this might classify as more “addiction” than “coping mechanism”.
• What do you like to do in your free time moments? I like to read. I take dance classes. I like to garden and I like to do crafts, but I don’t have a lot of time for the last one.
• What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Cleaning house, but I do it anyway lest we live in squalor. Data entry…because it is tedious and boring, but hey, that’s why they call it “work” and not “play”, right?
• If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Depends on the amount of money. Probably something beachy for my bedroom I am decorating (currently just in my head, but I do hope my dreams will come to fruition someday.)
• Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? I have a living/dining area that is New Orleans, with a lot of Fleur de Lis and I am doing a beach chic bedroom.
• What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? One birthday my husband picked out a pearl ring for me. It was the best because he a) listened to me when I had told him the story of how my grandmother had bought me a pearl ring at Sea World when I was very young and how I lost it and always felt sad about it. AND he picked out a ring that I did genuinely like. AND he did it all by himself, with no prodding from me. I love pearls. :)
I love this! Here are my answers:
What is your favorite color? Pink! In almost any shade.
What is your favorite season? Autumn, by far.
What is your favorite treat? I love sweets. Love love love them. I think my favorite is a gooey brownie.
What is your favorite scent? I like tropical smelling stuff--like coconut lime, or fresh smelling things, like apple or melon.
What is your favorite coping mechanism? Baking and crafting always get my mind off of things. I can get lost in Michaels for HOURS.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? Play games on my phone, read, take the dog on long walks.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Laundry. Ugh.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? I like to splurge on fancy coffee beverages.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? We have kind of a hodgepodge of themes. My office has a dark berry paint and a mahogany desk, and it is somewhat soothing to me. This is also the only room in my house with plants.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? I love interesting mugs...even not so interesting ones if they are large, but not too large, and heavy--those are the ones good for drinking.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? My Kitchenaid Mixer. Hub told me he was never going to buy me one because it was expensive and I would never use it. Ever. And one black friday, he went out to "lok for a computer" but came home with nothing. Later that day I opened my baking cupboard to find the mixer...I promply burst in to tears. (I didn't know it at the time, but I was newly pregnant)Best gift ever, and I use it all the time.
The answer to almost all of these questions for me is: brownies. Including decorating theme and scent. And season.
Swistle--I'm so glad you like it! I thought it was very pretty, along with being so tormenting =).
And thank you for the tip! I think this is going to work now!
Misty and Saly--This is EXCELLENT! That is exactly the kind of information that I find to be so helpful =)!
Reading (and Chickens)--Hee, hee! What a great answer =)!
This is a great idea!
My favorite color is orange. or red. Or purple. I love both Fall and Spring, but Fall wins because Spring is full of nasty storms.
Favorite treat... coffee out. Or fancy coffee creamer.
Favorite scents... vanilla, citrus, baking cookies, caramel...
Favorite ice cream is anything with chunks of chocolate or candy bars. lol
I love to read, walk, watch TV and craft.
I do not enjoy exercise but I keep doing it.
Free money? A new bag or shoes probably. Maybe a Starbucks card because I may have mentioned I love my coffee. lol
decorating themes... orange and red, no real themes although we have a lot of tree decor.
REALLY REALLY LIKE ... coffee. books.
Very best present? This is hard. I really like anything that shows a person "gets" me and/or cares about me and was thinking of me. :)
Or maybe my favorite color is turquoise. I can't decide. lol
Cayt--I tried taking a picture of my stash once, but it was just too much work to drag all of the containers out of the various places they are stored to get them all in one place for a picture =). And JUST when I start to work through some of the stash, something stressful happens and I turn into a yarn magnet! I stand my belief that you can never have enough yarn if you are making things for charity(ies) =)!
Is it too late to play?
What is your favorite color? I used to always say blue, and I almost said blue right now, but I think it's pink. Anything other than green and red, really.
What is your favorite season? Winter, with fall coming in a close second.
What is your favorite treat? Something sweet. Cookies, cupcakes, candy, chocolate. Hot tamales, M&M's, milk duds, frozen yogurt.
What is your favorite scent? Fruity things, but not anything that smells like food. I like apple, but not apple pie and especially not anything like cake batter or caramel corn.
What is your favorite coping mechanism? A nap. Getting out of the house alone. Reading.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? Read, play on the computer, go shopping.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? LAUNDRY.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? A pedicure, or shoes, or a new shirt, or a box of Sally Hansen nail strips.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? It's a pretty traditionally decorated house. We are themeless.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? I'm currently addicted to iced coffee. ADDICTED.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? I for sure can't name the very best, but a present I got recently had three boxes of candy that I like, plus a gift card for frozen yogurt and a McDonald's gift card (for getting iced coffee) and a magazine. So it cost less than $20, but the goodies spread out over a period of several days worth of usefulness.
Mama Bub--It's NEVER too late to play this fun game =)!

Favorite season: Fall
Favorite treat: cupcakes or sugar cookies

The CDP you sent has been awesome! I've loved everything so far. I never would have thought of the Burt's Bees, even though I love the stuff. I'm trying to build my accessory collection now, so fun little accessories would be nice. I love surprise packages, so pretty much anything anyone sends me would be awesome. :-)

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....)
See's chocolates (milk, with nuts and/or caramels). Any beauty product with shea butter. Love vintage stuff.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) That's a tough one. The best present was probably for my 21st birthday my husband (then boyfriend) took me on a shopping spree. He was moving away for grad school (we lived together) and he had all the kitchen stuff so he took me out and bought me new dishes, pots and pans, silverware, plus took me to a bookstore to get whatever books interested me. I was rather poor in college and could have never afforded all that new stuff myself. It was so much fun.
What is your favorite color? Crimson Red & Purple
What is your favorite season? Football season
What is your favorite treat? Chocolate covered pretzels
What is your favorite scent? Honeysuckle
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism? Any ice cream with pecans and chocolate or rainbow sherbet
What do you like to do in your free time moments? Read
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Anything laundry related and cleaning such as dusting, sweeping (we have a dog) and dishes
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Probably makeup or a new purse
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? infant chic? No, really most of my stuff is traditional and functional.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Dr Pepper, Broadway, and Alabama Crimson Tide Football
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? I would have to go with the necklace I was given with Jackson's name & birthstone right after he was born.
What is your favorite color? Blue, I think. I’m also a fan of green, purple, and brown. I love pink-and-brown color schemes, but am not so much of a fan of pink on its own.
What is your favorite season? Fall
What is your favorite treat? Decaf coffee and dark chocolate (the darker the better)
What is your favorite scent? This is the most important thing about me: I am allergic to ALL things scented. (Gives me migraines) I can’t use scented lotion, dish soap, shower gel, laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc.
What is your favorite coping mechanism? Food. Usually cookies.
What do you do in your free time? Read books or blogs, do Sudoku puzzles
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Going to work (I don’t so much mind being there, but I hate getting out of bed, showering, driving, etc). Getting up with the baby during the night.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? I’m not sure. I suppose accessories. I’m pretty cheap, so I’ve never bought scarves, belts, necklaces, etc, but I’ve gotten really into it lately and wish I had more.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? I have red accessories in my kitchen.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Starbucks. My Keurig.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? Trips. Either my honeymoon (which I suppose was a gift from my husband) or when my parents took us to Ireland 4 years ago. As far as material gifts go, the best was my iPad.
Shamefully late to add my comment.
What is your favorite color?
Red and purple, I guess. I do really like a pop of red, but I also think I might have too many red shirts at this point.
What is your favorite season?
Hmm. Fall, I think.
What is your favorite treat?
Candy. I love candy and cookies and sweet things. Chocolate candy, specifically.
What is your favorite scent?
I like plumeria and lilac, but I don't really like scented lotions and things.
What is your favorite coping mechanism?
Food, exercise. I like to take walks, that's probably my favorite exercise. I'm going to start running again soon, too. But also food.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
I like TV, the internet, books, and the Sunday crossword and Sudoku. I don't usually finish them, though. I also like to cook. This is a new thing for me.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
Cleaning, then re-cleaning, then re-cleaning the same things I just cleaned ten minutes ago. Also folding laundry.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
That is tough to answer, because it depends on how much money. I would love some designer shoes, but I think $500 shoes are a bit out the "it's still fun" price range for CDPs. So maybe... fancy food? Oh, and nice, pretty stationery. And jewelry maybe, but no bracelets, they bug me.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
I wish. My house is sort of "traditional/was free." Modern things would definitely look out of place here though.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....)
Ice cream. Tea. Chocolate. The Muppets. Cake.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
Ummmm. I am drawing a complete blank here. A cashmere cardigan? Cashmere is just so warm without being bulky, and I'm cold all the time in the winter. My best gifts are always the ones that prove the giver knows and listens to me, but that is no help whatsoever for someone in this exchange who doesn't know me!
1) What is your favorite color? Purple, teal, pink, orange
2) What is your favorite season? Fall
3) What is your favorite treat? Coffee. Also, LUSH bath products are a new obsession.
4) What is your favorite scent? If we're talking candles and things, I like baked goods scents. For lotions and things, I like berry scents. Anything floral is hit-or-miss as to whether it'll give me a migraine, so it's best to avoid scents that don't smell like you'd eat them.
5) What is your favorite ice cream? Mint chocolate chip normally, but there's one ice cream place near me that has a toasted coconut that is the best ice cream EVER. But only from that one place, any other place it's gonna be mint chocolate chip.
6) What do you like to do in your free time moments? Not that I get many with a now-mobile baby, but I like to read, do crossword puzzles, and sew. Also enjoying playing with the new dog, who is very, very good at destroying stuffed toys but loves them anyway.
7) What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Working out. I HATE to exercise but am trying to force myself (Am failing.). Also, housework. Namely vacuuming and emptying the dishwasher.
8) If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Probably spa treatments. Mani/pedi and/or massage. And maybe I'd go spend some at LUSH.
9) Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Not really, but we are a Virginia Tech family so there are a lot of splashes of Hokie stuff.
10) Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Wine. Bath bombs/bubble baths. Cupcakes (or anything with frosting, really).
11) What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? I honestly can't think of one, unless I say something like my engagement ring, or the diamond necklace Kevin gave me after Lorelai was born, or the birthstone pendant my brother had made for my first mother's day because he never, ever does that sort of thing (he's more of a gift card guy). But those are all sort of obvious answers, and the funny thing is, I don't usually wear jewelry except for my wedding/engagement rings and stud earrings (hoops/dangles and necklaces get yanked on by the kiddo).
This will be my first time participating in the CDP exchange, so here goes...
My favorite color is blue or green, or just about any color in a rich, saturated "jeweltone". I really enjoyed spring when I lived on the East coast...now that I'm in So Cal I'm somewhat ambivalent about them all.
I'm really not into heavily scented lotions, etc, especially florals. When I buy something scented, I tend to buy things like vanilla or citrus.
I work in a bank, so I like cute little things for my desk, and I love pretty or unique office supplies. I'm a sucker for organizational things.
I like to do crafty things, even though I don't really have much time to. That being said, I'm not overly creative or artsy -- I can take somebody else's idea and follow through with it, not come up with my own. My favorites are cross-stitch and crochet, but I'm way better at cross-stitch.
I consider myself a bit of a dork or geek. (Not that I would consider you a dork or geek for liking the things I like, just myself). I like video games, fantasy things, books, board games, etc. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EVERYDAY ITEMS WITH A GEEKY TWIST! I've got jewelry with Harry Potter quotes, assorted dnd dice in a decorative vase in my office at home, and I've recently done a cross-stitch from Hunger Games and one from WoW. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I like things like Mario, Zelda, and World of Warcraft -- not things like shooting games, Star Wars, sports, etc.
Okay, I think this is a start...I'll try to do a blog post later.
What is your favorite color? teal/blue-green
What is your favorite season? autumn. I love the colors and the cool temps
What is your favorite treat? Hands-down favorite candy is Cadbury Mini-Eggs, but since those are seasonal I'll go for any chocolate.
What is your favorite scent? I DO NOT like perfume or scented lotions. However, I love candles and other good smelling things…just as long as I don't have to apply it to my person. I like scents like lavender, lemongrass or cut-grass - fresh but not overpowering.
What is your favorite ice cream? I love this local ice cream company that makes a roasted-cherry-goat-cheese ice cream. Sounds totally food-snob but it's so, so good. But, in reality if I'm having ice cream I prefer it in milkshake form - preferably a peanut butter milkshake.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? I like to sew and love playing around with fabric and notions. I feel both zen and accomplished when I'm sewing.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Housecleaning. I hate it so much.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Simple, but artful silver earrings.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? No themes but I LOVE ME some cute office supplies. I'm at my desk a lot so I like it to be fun.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? I love me some diet coke. But I also like things with birds (as cliched as that has become), especially Magpies. Elephant things are also fun. My style tends to run to the mid-century modern.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? I love stuff that is unique to the givers location - a small art piece, cool notecards, jeweley from a local artist…stuff that has a story and is rooted in it's place of origin.
Just re-read my comment on scent above and realized that while I don't like scented lotions I love scented bath stuff (salts, oils, bubbles, etc...). What can I say? I'm weird.
Updating my responses (can you delete the earlier one?... thanks!)
What is your favorite color? gray
What is your favorite season? fall
What is your favorite treat? chocolate covered almonds
What is your favorite scent? freshly baked apple pie or brownies! or christmas trees
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism? eating pie (just kidding.... I can say no to ice cream pretty easily, but salty snacks ... and pie ... are hard to say no to).
What do you like to do in your free time moments? read, write, sleep (not all at once)
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? mopping the kitchen floor
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? jewelry or a new purse
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? black and white photos of my family (great-grandparents, etc.) and maps from where we've lived
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? reusable bags (I'm a "bag lady") and books/journals/good pens
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? Things that touch my heart, like a framed photo of my oldest son who hates to have his picture taken, but he did it (with a smile!) for me.
I'm reading these comments and mine are similar to Twisterfish's and so now I think she's living in my brain.
Anyway, here goes. And I think I may pee and shriek with excitement at this whole CDP thing.
What is your favorite color?
GRAY! Lovely.
What is your favorite season? Summer. It used to be Fall, but I think the horrible allergies I get in the Fall have had an impact on how I feel about it.
What is your favorite treat?
Reese's peanut butter cups, gooey, chocolatey brownies, dark chocolate covered almonds from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, um. Chocolate?
What is your favorite scent?
Moth balls. I mean, peppermint/orange/lime/grapefruit/sandalwood
What is your favorite coping mechanism?
Napping is my passion.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Knitting, Kindle-ing, running, squishing ants.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
Washing. Stupid. Dishes. Every time I do them I want to hurl them onto the floor and stomp away in a huff.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Definitely clothes.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
We live in a pit of doom currently, but my totally awesome style is clean, simple, white, bright, with touches of handmade loveliness.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like?
Starbucks iced green tea, notebooks and pens, natural skin care products, fancy yarn, Ellen Degeneres
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? When we were dating, my husband gave me an iron baby head mold from and Industrial antique store. It's cool.
What is your favorite color?
Green. All shades, but especially BRIGHT greens.
What is your favorite season?
Umm, I suppose late summer/early fall. That’s alpine summer here in the PacNW, and the wildflowers are gorgeous!
What is your favorite treat?
Lately, ice cream with yummy stuff on top. Or fruit cobblers. Or most sugary things.
What is your favorite scent?
Not a big fan of scented stuff, but I love actual natural smells – pine, flowers, fresh cut grass, citrus.
What is your favorite coping mechanism?
Exercise is the most effective, but depending on what I’m coping with I have trouble making myself go to practice or the gym. After that, knitting and eating.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Knit, read, cook/bake.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
Cleaning. I hate cleaning. It’s such a Sisyphean task, and I end up getting passive aggressive and martyring myself and then I pick fights with people. I’m really a delight.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Possibly jewelry – I’ve spent a lot of time convincing myself I don’t like jewelry, but I think I secretly do. I’d probably talk myself out of that, though, and into yarn or knitting needles.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
Green. Every wall in our house is painted green or teal, except my daughter’s room (purple). Most of our stuff (art, small kitchen appliances, towels, etc) are green or have green accents. It might be a little weird but I like it.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....)
Green things, DIET COKE, dinosaurs.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
My mom sent me a squishy bathrobe and a pair of really comfy slippers for my birthday when I was pregnant last year. It was well timed and really sweet.
What is your favorite color?
Green. Navy blue. Yellows.
What is your favorite season?
That point of spring where the flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and you don't need to wear a jacket and you feel like skipping down the street. However, I also love fall where I finally need a jacket and can start cooking heartier meals and the leaves are changing.
What is your favorite treat?
Well, I like all treats, or I seem to. I will admit, nothing can cure a bad day like a really good, dense, chewy chocolate chip cookie. My other favorite treat to myself is a mani-pedi. They make me feel so put together and they completely disguise the fact that I threw my wet hair up in a ponytail. Or I like to pretend they do. This glee only lasts 24 hours as that's the maximum amount of time it takes to chip my fingernails. And then we high tail it back to hoboville until I decide to do it again (months and months later.)
What is your favorite scent?
I like citrus-y scents and seasonal scents, but I'm not a fan of floral or overly sweet ones. I tend not to have anything scent producing items in my house because said items are typically candles and I'm way too clumsy to be left responsible of an open flame. And other scented items are typically lotion or skin related and mine is just too sensitive for heavy perfumes.
What is your favorite coping mechanism?
Eating and achieving a near catatonic state in front of the television.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Read, knit, bake, watch TV, do word puzzles, do something crafty/creative. I just started graduate school so my free time will be severely limited in the next couple of years.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
Laundry as city living requires a trip to the laundromat. Cleaning.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
These days, probably shoes and fun statement necklaces (a new love of mine). Some ridiculous stationery supplies I probably won't use but will love a lot anyway. A mani/pedi.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
My home theme could basically be described as "I wish I lived in the Pottery Barn catalog" with personalized touches.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....)
Hmmm... I like handmade. I like geeky, quirky. I like vintage-y. That's not very specific...
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
Really thoughtful gifts are my favorite. The meaning trumps whatever it is. My aunt gave me a mirror when I graduated from college. It's similar to this one http://www.sticksart.com/Merchant2/graphics/products/OH/onhmir76_298.jpg. She wrote on the back of the mirror about her wishes and hopes for me and how she wanted me to look into it and be reminded of it each day as I set out on my new life. LOVE. It's in my bedroom now and I love love love love it.
I am a mid-thirties SAHM with a 3-year-old and a 3-month-old. I'm a blond, green-eyed homebody.
What is your favorite color?
PURPLE! I also love red and all colors of green.
What is your favorite season?
Spring/Early Summer
What is your favorite treat?
Brownies and ice cream. Hands down.
What is your favorite scent?
I don't wear much scent because I have sensitive skin, but I gravitate toward heady, summery flowers like orange blossom, jasmine and magnolia.
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism?
Um. A lot of it? I do believe milkshakes can cure minor headaches.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
I love to read and cook.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
DISHES. HATE. AND WE HAVE NO DISHWASHER. I also hate dragging myself to bed because it takes me so long to go through my nighttime routine. I do not have the inclination or patience to craft, but I like handmade things.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Probably costume jewelry or fancy skin care.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
Not really. But I do have several bright red dishes and small appliances that make me happy.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....)
Robots, space, Terry Pratchett books, fantasy books in general, walking for exercise, COMEDY TV and movies because I have almost no patience for drama, pedicures, soft socks, dinosaurs, CHOCOLATE, vegetarian cooking (but not really baking), coffee (Keurig), Cardinals baseball!
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
A pretty handmade silk scarf in bright colors that my friend made just for me.
What is your favorite color?
purple
What is your favorite season?
spring and summer!
What is your favorite treat?
coffee, wine, chocolates
What is your favorite scent?
for myself: anything fresh and clean, almost like baby powder. my favorite everyday fragrance to wear is Pure Grace by Philosophy.
for my house: lemon, or coconut. I also like the smell of fresh cut grass too - odd, right?
What is your favorite coping mechanism?
I like to have some genuine "ME" time to deal with any sort of issue happening in my life. Either a massage or pedicure. Alone time without obligation.
I also like to clean my house when I'm feeling stressed or angry. I love "pretty" cleaning supplies. Mrs Meyers, etc.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love TV. I watch a crap load of ridiculous reality shows. I LOVE reading magazines. Anything from US Weekly to Vanity Fair to Martha Stewart Living.
I love to shop. For anything. Clothes for myself or my kid, household stuff, decorating stuff. garden supplies. I love books - anything that has a current buzz (50 Shades, Hunger Games, Gone Girl, etc.)
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? I hate exercising. And I hate making dinner. I need ideas, menu plans, for everyday dinners and prepping before hand to accommodate for after school activities.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Fall boots. I live in So California. Fall boots are really necessary until Jan or Feb and for a very short time but I really want a pair of leather riding boots.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
We're very Pottery Barn around these parts.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....)
Lip gloss, cookbooks, aprons, cake stands, baking supplies, kitchen supplies, hand creams, beauty supplies, hair products, soaps, lotions, stationary, note cards, post it notes, nail polish, jewelry, bobby pins, anything and everything.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
Hard question! I like when people get what I ask for, honestly. I want a vacuum for Christmas and I got it. Made me very happy.
What is your favorite color? Blues and Greens
What is your favorite season? Autumn, followed closely by Spring.
What is your favorite treat? Vegan cheesecake because that is the treat that I always hope someone makes me for my birthday. Taco Bell or Chinese take-out are my other favorite ways to treat myself with food.
What is your favorite scent? Mint, Freshly cut grass/hay, flowery scents that aren't too perfumed.
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism? Giving myself "time off" if possible, window shopping (online window shopping counts too), and sometimes 'comfort food.'
What do you like to do in your free time moments? Read, craft, spend "leisurely" moments with family and animals.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Clean anything that is never really done, because I sometimes find it frustrating to never really be finished with that sort of task.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? The items that immediately jump to mind are: a book or movie that I haven't justified yet because I'll probably only read/watch it once or twice. Also, I can see myself going somewhere like Target, TJ Maxx, or Micheal's/Hobby Lobby and buying some clearance item(s) that I ordinarily wouldn't indulge in on a whim. I would probably be more likely to do the second.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Not really, but if time/space/money were no object, I would decorate my home office in a steam punk theme.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? I like animals (partial to horses, dogs, cats because those are the pets that I own or have owned), natural products, silk flowers (I use them for crafting), plants/gardening, items/gadgets that make my life easier or everyday items that are pretty/pleasing in a way that makes daily tasks more bright. Tea.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? Anything that shows the giver thoughtfully considered my interests and/or needs. My VitaMix, Kindle, and horse probably top this list. I also really enjoy surprises.
What is your favorite color? I love jewel tones - magenta, dark purple, Kelly or emerald green. Colors with heavy saturation that are likely to dye everything in the washing machine.
What is your favorite season? I like spring when it starts warming up into summer but it's still reasonable, and autumn when it's still summer enough to enjoy the outdoors. But not the sweltering oppressive heat of actual summer.
What is your favorite treat? I love fruit flavored candies, and things that have just a little chocolate in them. Coconut yumminess, peanut butter ... Okay, I'm not picky I love all the foods.
What is your favorite scent? Cranberry and pomegranate.

If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Earrings or long necklaces. Or books.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Comfortable earth tones. I'd love to be more adventurous but that involves more painting so we have green and tan walls, and complementary colors.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? I'm a bit obsessed with Dr. Pepper, wine, they might be giants, and sitting on the couch doing nothing.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) my cousin got me an "I am a runner" necklace which really meant a lot.
Having a hard time cutting and pasting. A little bit about me: my favorite colors are blue/greens. I love coffee and chocolate and French fries. I am a high school English teacher who also loves American history and art history-- particularly the Impressionists. I love reading-- but not chick lit. I wish I liked scented stuff, but it gives me a headache, Coping? Mini Reese's peanut butter cups. The best gift I ever received? A toss up between my hubs flying out my BFF for my bridal shower and one of my friends getting me four large ripe Fuji appples from the foothills. In my spare time you can find me napping, reading, walking, writing or hanging out with friends. My MIL says I have the "get me the hell out of here" syndrome, because I love to travel. I love Mr. Darcy and would move to England if given the chance. Serious addiction to sticky notes. What do I hate but have to do anyway? Grade and clean. My favorite season is fall, I have a fantasy football league, but no favorite team, and my slow cooker is a staple in my house. Decorations? My home is pretty simple with modern touches-- mostly light blues and greens. I think this about covers it!
What is your favorite color?
Black, pink, red
What is your favorite season?
Fall, for sure
What is your favorite treat?
Hmm, Cadbury milk chocolate, brownies, cheese. Honestly? All the snacks.
What is your favorite scent?
Lavender, peppermint, gardenia
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism?
Mocha Almond Fudge hot fudge sundae from Baskin Robbins
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
I seemingly never have free moments these days. I enjoy reading (usually something light. Or, uh, off Jonna's reading list.) but have to sneak that in. I LOVE to bake.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
Honestly? Showering. I like being clean after, but actual shower time seems like such a waste. (And I refuse to bathe.)
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Jewelry or purses. Or a massage/pedicure. Or sunglasses.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
My kitchen is red, black and white. The rest of my home is....toddler chic?
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like?
Lip balms, stains and glosses. Sunglasses. Office supplies. Starbucks/coffee. Cost Plus/World Market. Wrapping paper. Stationary.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best?
Toss up. My old boss gives me her airline miles to attend The Blathering every year. I love to travel and see new places, and hanging out with amazing people so this is such a huge, huge gift she gives me.
Second, also from an old boss, was a gift certificate for a local jeweler that makes custom imprint jewelry. I did a toe imprint of my daughter when she turned two that I hold very dear. I love personalized items, jewelry and my daughter (and son!) so this was just perfect.
What is your favorite color?
Fuschia (which is spelled wrong, and I'm sorry for that), tangerine, and houndstooth.
What is your favorite season?
I'm a transition person. Fall and spring rule my world. (But more fall - FOOTBALL SEASON!)
What is your favorite treat?
I am totally the person who loves nothing more to wander through Target ALONE. Maybe with a nice hot autumn drink in my hand.
What is your favorite scent?
I tend to wander toward florals - gardenia and rose are my favorites.
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism?
Sadly, I don't think it's in existence anymore. Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby (ice cream with chocolate and pretzels) was my fave. Their Red Velvet is a close second, though.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Since I've started school full-time (along with working full-time and mothering.. part-time), free time moments are non-existent.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
Schoolwork is HIGH on that list. As an efficiency person, busy work just for the sake of busy works STRANGLES MY SOUL.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
A nice bottle of rum. Dark, spiced rum to be exact. It's my favorite, but no one else in my house drinks, so it's a waste to keep here.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?

I am a sucker for sample products of beauty stuff. Birchbox is my favorite package each month. I hoard my Bliss spa's Lemon Sage body butter. It smells SO GOOD I could eat it, but that would be wasting it. I love thick, warm socks and funky knee-high socks to hide under boots.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) I think my favorite gifts are things that are thoughtful and remind me of people. I have a pair of silver earrings that my brother gave me and a silver necklace my sister gave me. I think of them every time I put them on. They aren't expensive or fancy, but they are so meaningful to me. I am VERY sentimental, but also practical. I don't keep cards or letters, but I would keep a poem someone wrote out by hand. I might even frame it! I have books that people gave me, like my dad's copy of Catcher in the Rye. But I have also loved surprise gifts to Ann Taylor Loft and Sephora so I do like the material surprises too apparently!
What is your favorite color? Why, yes! Every shade of blue IS my favorite color! Except when I'm also loving green and red. Or purple. But never pink. There is no such thing as a good shade of pink.

Nap, because I have a baby who hates sleep. Otherwise, dork around on the internet, cook, eat, run so I can cook and eat
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Laundry, because it NEVER ENDS. Same with cleaning. As soon as something is clean, it just gets dirty again and you have to do it all over. Such BS.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Makeup or nail polish. Or shoes. Or earrings. (Which really would be frivolous, because the baby just pulls them right off these days.)
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? I like to call my decorating style "making do with what we have for now because this is a rental." It's a lovely blend of Ikea/Target/Storehouse (Man, I miss Storehouse)/West Elm/other people's castoffs/my husband's ugly couches from before we were married.

What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) The year my now-husband proposed, he gave me the complete Calvin & Hobbes collection -- the one in 3 volumes, with the fancy binding and box. I was so excited that he not only gave it to me, but thought of it himself that I didn't even notice he was kneeling in front of me with a ring at first. (Also, I am oblivious some of the time. Obviously.)

• Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Wow. I am not sure that I have a good answer for that.
• What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? I think that the very best present I ever received was when my mom gave me a charm bracelet for my Confirmation, and had all of my aunts buy me a charm. I have added to it over the years, and it’s very treasured. I have gotten plenty of amazing things, but that is the one “TAKE IN CASE OF FIRE” present.
I am so excited to participate this time around!
What is your favorite color? - All of them? I honestly don't know. I love kelly green, all yellows, all blues, gray, even reds and pinks from time to time.
What is your favorite season? - Again, is all of them an ok answer? The only one I don't like is the non-Christmas portion of winter.
What is your favorite treat? - Ice cream. Chocolate. Coffees and teas. Taffy.
What is your favorite scent? - Anything Christmas related. Lilacs.
What is your favorite coping mechanism? - I love to read, listen to upbeat music, and pretend I'm on the beach.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? - Read. Watch the cheesiest of cheesy movies.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? - Folding laundry. I don't mind sorting or washing the laundry. But folding it makes me want to live in dirty clothes for the rest of my life.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? - Jewelry. Colorful, sparkly jewelry. Or lipgloss. Or eyeshadow.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? - No themes. Reds, yellows, and greens, mostly.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) – flowers, anything beach related. (the beach is my happy place…)
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) – It’s a tie between my 1st anniversary present from my husband (paper – he printed out the sheet music for our wedding song on pretty paper to give to me) and my 5th anniversary present from my husband (wood – he had a wooden music box made that plays our wedding song). I love the thought that went into these. I’m just a big sentimental fool at heart. (Although, the purse he bought me for the leather anniversary was pretty great, too…)
What is your favorite color? White! After that, probably aqua, and other blues and greens.
What is your favorite season? Fall. The only time I love living in Ohio!
What is your favorite treat? There is a restaurant about an hour away called Springfield Grille that has my favorite hummus ever as a fairly large appetizer with lots of rosemary flatbread. I get it maybe twice a year and eat the entire thing myself as a meal. (Probably not what most people would consider treat but I love it! lol :) If I had to pick something less healthy, it would be homemade (chewy!) chocolate chip or sugar cookies.
What is your favorite scent? Anything clean and light, maybe some fruit scents. Not into anything musky, vanilla-y, or strong florals.
What is your favorite coping mechanism? Time alone to recharge--whether it's working out, taking a long hot bath, etc.

What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? I don't enjoy eating a semi-restrictive diet (I try to avoid sugar except natural sugars in fruits/veggies), but in the big picture I know it's a small sacrifice to stay healthy.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? I think I'd take my husband out on a dinner date. Not really a frivolous thing, I guess, but we don't often get time alone (maybe 2-3 dates per year) so it's a luxury to us! If I'm thinking bigger, I'd follow up our dinner with a night at a hotel (no kids to battle at bedtime or wake us up at 7am the next morning!). Haven't done that in 5 years!
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? No real themes... Right now we're trying to keep things fairly neutral since we plan to sell our house in the near future. What I have up is simple decor (I like things that are classic, light, pretty but functional), photos, prints from Etsy.

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? coffee, wine,
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? My children (10 miscarriages mean that 2 live children are miraculous gifts). Materially? I'd say my in-laws give the most generous and useful gifts - DSLR camera, iPad, iPhone. BUT my husband surprised me once with a Mother/Daughter Willow Tree plaque for Mother's Day one year right after we lost a daughter at 20 weeks - it was very sentimental.
What are you passionate about? Dignity of the Human Person, my faith
Maybe I need to change the name on my google account? My daughter has a blog that is registered under there and I didn't want her name to be public, so.... huh, that "humble servant" is her, but it's really Holly/seekingwoman
-What is your favorite color?
Yellow. But I like lots of colors! Bright reddish orange, light blue, all kinds of green...
-What is your favorite season?
Spring. I hear it is lovely. We seem to have skipped it this year in Minnesota.
-What is your favorite treat?
Spicy Thai Kettle Chips. I could eat those all day long. I like the other flavors, too, though. I like salty things, and salt in general (on margaritas, in chocolate, in caramel), Haagen Daz Coconut Pineapple ice cream, dark chocolate, wine (though red wine gives me migraines)...I am sensing that I could go on for a while here.
-What is your favorite scent?
In general, I like things that smell like scents that exist in nature. I like fresh scents, like lemon and verbena and orange. I also like nature scents, like ocean and pine and grass, and and calming scents, like lavender and ginger, and cozy scents, like wood (cedar, sandal, etc.) and such. I do not like fruity scents, or most florals except rose and gardenia, or anything so perfume-y/synthetic smelling that it gives a person a headache. I already wear a pretty heavy/masculine perfume (Chergui), so I tend to go for plain things like lavender and lemon for lotion.
-What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism?
Bubble baths. Face masks/beauty rituals (i.e. painting nails) that make me feel put together. Reading, preferably with a glass of wine. Eating obscene quantities of pasta. Shopping. Going for a walk.
-What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Read, Internet, watch television in bed on my laptop, do crossword puzzles/sudoku, make lists. I like to paint and do little art projects, especially with Simone.
-What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
I hate cleaning, because I am cursed with a love of cleanliness and neatness and zero ability to bring this about to my satisfaction (I have ADD, and trust me when I say that it takes me 3x longer to do what should be a simple thing, like picking up the living room, than it would take almost anyone else).
-If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Hmmm...makeup, probably? Or maybe a fancy personalized piece of jewelry? Or a massage and mani/pedi? Or a set of champagne coupes? It depends upon how much money we're talking about. A tiny amount, maybe a scented candle. A big amount, maybe a trip somewhere, or a vintage card catalog from a library. It is so much more fun to shop for the kids that I am realizing I never really buy things for myself anymore.
-Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
No. We like bright colors and modern-ish things. Think Land of Nod catalog (if we could afford to shop in the Land of Nod catalog). We are probably FINALLY buying a house this year (after a decade of apartment living), and I am so excited to decorate and make it all nice and permanent and home-y feeling.
-Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like?
Goats, robins, anything Shinzi Katoh, office supplies (post-it notes, very very fine tip--like .38--pens, narrow-rule legal pads), Switzerland, white burgundy, kitschy little things from antique stores.
-What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best?
When we were first dating, my husband gave me a first edition of a long out of print book that I really wanted--that I'd mentioned to him ONCE. And then there was another time that I was sort of obsessed with this one song, but hadn't had the money to buy the CD yet, and not only did Scott buy it for me, he cued it up in my car's CD player so that when I went to leave for work in the morning the song started playing. They were the best because they showed he'd noticed little things. He is pretty great at that stuff.

What do you like to do in your free time moments? I don't have a ton of free moments right now - I've bitten off a bit more than I can chew, commitment wise, but I love to read, take pictures, write, watch TV marathons, and cook/bake. I'm not so fond of the cleaning up part of cooking/baking, but I do love the process.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? I'm not very organized, with belongings or my time. Unfortunately, this means that my house is a mess and I'm always forgetting to do something.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Hmmm. Apps, music, makeup, cute clothes or some fun accessories to make my boring wardrobe more fun. If it were a lot of money I'd get a vacation or a massage or BOTH.

And writing letters.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
I haaaaate cleaning the bathroom. There is really no reason for this – it doesn’t take that long, and I like having the bathroom clean – but I just hate it. Which is why I very rarely do it.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Unnecessarily cute/colorful office supplies. Pretty stationery. A(nother) pretty pashmina. Colored tights. Scented candles. Fruit snacks. Warm fuzzy socks so my toesies will survive the MN winter (does that count?).

Basically: pretty blue things.

What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) Two occasions come to mind. I turned 21 my junior year of college, during the semester when ALL of my friends were studying abroad and I was stuck on campus alone. The following semester, I woke up one morning to find my dorm-room door decorated as though it was my birthday. My friends had chosen a random day to celebrate my 21st birthday once they were all back on campus. It was amazing! The second occasion was the December that my husband and I got engaged. I was leaving for Christmas with my family back in Michigan. Darren took me to the airport for my red-eye flight home and surprised me during check-in that he was flying home with me. Again, amazing!

Another big surprise was my 40th birthday party and my pregnancy and birth of my third daughter. In my "down time" I volunteer at the schools and advocate for brain injury. Both my 15 year old and I had brain injuries in 2001 due to a car accident. Hers was much more severe and continues to provide its challenges. I have a very small circle of friends that I would trust implicitly. I enjoy yoga, exercise, reading, writing and defiintely need my "chill" time.

What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received, and why was it the best? My husband gave me a necklace to wear to our son's wedding in November, and I tear up thinking about it. It is so lovely, and so out of character for both of us. Sentiment plus beauty. I'm at the age where I'm trying to get rid of stuff rather than accumulate, though.
I answered this before, but under my old name & old blog address, so I'm reposting with the updated info for whoever gets my name this time around :)

I love anything vanilla, citrus, or ginger. In terms of, like, lotions and candles and stuff, anything that smells like baked goods is a safe bet. I also really like fresh/green scents -- remember Gap Grass? -- anything herbal. I'm not too into florals, except lavender.
What is your favorite coping mechanism?
Running and biking (alone time + endorphins!), reading, blogging, snacking, drinking, cooking.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Reading (fiction), working on photography, learning the ukulele (new hobby!), hanging out with my dachshund Egon.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
I'm a college English lecturer, so I have come to dread grading papers. It's the most tedious and often frustrating part of my job, but it's also completely necessary.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
A new dress, earrings, bag, scarf, or shoes. Or nail polish. I never spend money on these things without feeling guilty! Or possibly a membership to my local, pricey-but-wonderful yoga studio.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
No real themes, but I try to keep things pretty clean and modern. I like simple designs and nothing too fussy. My "design aesthetic" is mostly…Ikea. I'm not fancy.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....)
Bicycles, dachshunds, coffee, scarves, anything Oregon-related (I lived there while in school and miss it terribly)
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
This is a hard one -- Maybe my DSLR, which I picked out myself and my family gave me money toward buying it. This was a great one because I'd been wanting a nice camera forever, and it's something I use all the time, it feeds my creativity, and it's just plain fun. Maybe the fancy perfume my husband gave me for Christmas (Arquiste L'Etrog), because it's sort of indulgent and romantic and I'd never spend that much money on something for myself. Both of these are way out of CDP range, of course, but hopefully this gives some impression of what I'm into?
What are you passionate about?
Reading and writing, photography, running.

Because in my house I'm the one who buys all the presents -- even the ones for me at Christmas and my birthday (husband agrees it's easier if I just get something I'll like rather than anything he'd pick out). So a surprise -- big or small -- is very special.

What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
A Pandora bracelet from my husband. I used to think the idea was stupid. But he created the idea of making the bracelet full of charms that represented our story. :) And I fell for it.
What are you passionate about?
Kids. I'm a pediatric OT and I love my work. And I LOVE MY BABY. I am also passionate about cooking, photography (mostly just of personal stuff), knitting, and yoga.

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Not exactly, other than sleep. (there is a theme here thanks to a toddler that doesn't sleep well) I really like earrings, fun dangly ones, since I have short hair I get to show them off. My favorite ones are the ones someone else picked out, interestingly enough.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? My DSLR camera. I wasn't expecting it, and it was exactly what I wanted. I use it a lot (more when its warm) and it makes me happy. I want to do more nature photos this summer. I also use my iPhone (5c) for photography a lot.
What are you passionate about? My kids, women/diversity in technology (I work in IT for a larger international company) , and taking better care of myself. I am not good at that last one, but I know it needs to happen and I am trying.
Hi I'm @39Candles on twitter/instagram and Blair Petrillo in real life.
My favorite color is green. Like kelly green. I'm a preppy girl at heart.
My favorite season is Fall, but let's face it: at this point, anything that's not winter would be bliss.
My favorite treat? Cookies. Of any variety.
Favorite scent. Lavender. Or coconut.
Coping mechanism: Besides wine? Social media, reading and fashion magazines/websites.
In my free time I watch hockey (Washington Capitals), read, cook and listen to music.
Thing I have to do but don't enjoy. Hmmm. Emptying the dishwasher? Fighting traffic? I don't know. There's not much I dread about my life. Talking on the phone to strangers maybe.
A frivolous thing just for me: earrings or make-up for sure.
No themes in my house or life. Unless hodge-podge counts as a theme. My personal style is classic and preppy. Lots of pearls and monograms.
Things I REALLY REALLY like: Diet Coke, music, anything with a monogram.
Best present ever: A Kate Spade bracelet that has "London Calling" on it. Combines my love of all things preppy with my love of music.
Passions: my kids (obviously), husband (one would hope), the needs of working families.
What is your favorite color? Blues and greens, usually darker rather than pastels
What is your favorite season? Fall
What is your favorite treat? Cookies, Brownies, Cakes…just about any baked good! Chocolate-covered pretzels.
What is your favorite scent? A lot of scents give me a headache, but I like peppermint for house stuff like candles or diffusers and beachy-scented stuff for myself (I guess beachy-scented = anything that combines the smell of sunscreen, water, tanning oil, etc).
What is your favorite coping mechanism? Eating? Ha. Write in notebooks or journals, veg out online, binge watch tv shows like Downton Abbey, Revenge, Lost.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? I like to read (YA lit/dystopian lit have been favorites of mine for a long time), nap, drink coffee
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Cleaning my house?!
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? I’m the worst at this. Probably a comfy shirt or lounge-y pants, because I like to be comfortable. A massage, possibly, or pedicure.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Not really, but I’m always drawn to pretty typography or letter press designs, fun frames for pictures of my family, quotes (literary or funny or poignant), art work, pictures of unique perspectives, city skylines, trees—I’m a fan of the visual, I guess, for someone who doesn’t have much hanging on her walls!
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? I like bird designs, letter press/typography stuff, nice pillows, kitchen towels ,and dish towels (I never seem to buy these, but I like them), music of virtually all kinds (with the exception of thrash metal or anything that screams at me).
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? Hmm. Split answer: my college boyfriend drove to a town 30 minutes away to get me a cherry pie for my birthday because he knew I used to have one every year when I was younger. Other best: my husband bought me a necklace with our son’s birth stone on it for my first Mother’s Day. I keep meaning to get one of those necklaces with my boys’ names on it to represent both kids, but I haven’t done that yet.
What are you passionate about? People. My family. Fairness and kindness
My favorite color is blue; anything from turquoise to navy. I am also partial to pink, leaning more toward candy pink than coral.
My favorite season is spring, when the new leaves are just out.
My favorite treat is a sausage McMuffin. I even buy precooked sausage patties so that I can make them at home.
I love light floral scants (lilac, rose, lily-of-the-valley) but I have a very sensitive nose and rarely do artificial ones.
Ice cream coping mechanism: a Dairy Queen twist cone dipped in chocolate, eaten in the car in the little parking area in the woods behind our Dairy Queen.
What do I like to do in my free time moments? Read, read, read!
I'm not a fan of any sort of cleaning -- you would know this if you could see the dust in my house -- but I make an effort at intervals. I DO tend to keep things relatively tidy.
If I had frivolous money to spend it would be either at the fabric/craft store or a bookstore. Small amounts would probably be fast food ;-/
It's fairly safe to say that the closest I come to a decorating scheme is "book cases." There's one in every room except the bathrooms.
I REALLY, REALLY like my family!
The best present I've ever gotten was my floating (real) pearl necklace. I saw it in a jeweler's window when Roger and I were out walking, and he saved up and got it for me that Christmas. I've worn it to all my children's weddings, and lots of other special occasions.
I'm passionate about my faith, my family, and (to a lesser extent) reading, food, and knitting.
Favorite color: Purple
Favorite season: Summer -- I would live in flip flops all summer long if I didn't have to look somewhat professional at work.
Favorite treat: Chocolate Chip Cookies
Favorite scent: Anything citrus-y
Favorite coping mechanism: A good cardio workout, preferably tap dancing or jogging. A glass or two of wine also has great healing powers.
Free moments: Reading novels, tap dancing, enjoying a glass of chardonnay, spending time outside in the sun
Don't enjoy, but have to do: Folding and putting away laundry, deciding what to eat for breakfast every day
Frivolous spending money would go toward: A pedicure, lattes, a spa day, new shoes, jewelry
Decorating themes: Not really. We have lots of family photos everywhere; I don't like trinkets whose sole purpose is to collect dust (I hate dusting)
Something I REALLY REALLY like: Wine. And pedicures. And fancy coffee. And cooking.
Very! Best! Present: All of my best presents are things my husband has built for me. The best examples that come to mind are my tap floor and my ping pong table. The tap floor is a wood section of floor he built so I could tap dance at home without ruining our nice hardwood floors or ruining my nice tap shoes on our concrete basement floor. He built the ping pong table because he knew I grew up playing ping pong with my dad and would love to be able to play more often at home, both with him and with my dad when my parents come to visit (and with my kids when they're old enough). What I love about these gifts is that my husband took things he knew I loved doing and created ways for me to do them as often as I wanted now that I could do them at home. With a full time job and two kids, it's tough to get out of the house; it's nice that I can bring the hobbies I love home without having to sacrifice time with my family.
I am passionate about: Spending time with my husband and two adorable kids (I have a 2.5-year-old son and a 7-week old daughter). Tap dancing (though I have very little time for it anymore, sadly).
What is your favorite color? Blues of all shades.
What is your favorite season? It used to be summer, and then I moved to Phoenix, so now it's whatever's between Halloween & Christmas. I guess that's probably fall but it feels like summer in North Dakota, so...
What is your favorite treat? I love milk chocolate with stuff in it (but not fruit, ugh), coconutty things, and fancy coffee.
What is your favorite scent? I get migraines from a lot of scents (boo) but for some reason, clean citrus scents have are ok with the tyrant that lives in my head. I hate the taste of grapefruit but I love the scent of it.
What is your favorite coping mechanism? It might actually be ice cream. Or cheesecake. Or Chinese food. Whatever it is, it isn't healthy for me.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? I love to nap, watch Doctor Who, read books on my nook, and play with my little dog. My husband and I are adopting (hopefully soon!) so I imagine that soon I won't have time to do any of that!
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Cleaning the floors. Worst.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Maybe Starbucks? pedicure? nook books? I'm not very good at spending money on myself most of the time.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? I share a desk with my husband so not too much room to decorate, but I like pretty pushpins & post-its.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) Chocolate. Work is stressful, liberal application of chocolate is what gets me through the day.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) My husband had a painting made for me this Christmas of our dogs (one alive, one not), dressed in royal garb and holding paws on their thrones. It was so funny and sweet and thoughtful (and BRAVE) that my heart just melted.
What is your favorite color? Purple. And yellow. And pink.
What is your favorite season?
I live in Florida. We don't have seasons. I guess fall?

Anything involving dark chocolate.

Cold Stone banana caramel crunch.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Read or Twitter.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
I'd probably just go to Target and throw things in the cart indiscriminately. The time spent wandering around Target (by myself!) would be the best part.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
Haaaa, no. But I have red accents in the kitchen.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like?
Yankee Candle Company scented candles, fun socks, Christmas music, Starbucks, musicals/show tunes.

Tickets to a Broadway show. Best experience ever.

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) I love office supplies or things to help me get organized. I especially love fine point pens in colorful colors. I also love owls, coffee and fun paper/stationary.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) Best gift ever - a box of crayons & coloring books when I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Zimbabwe. It just flat out made me happy. Who doesn't love to color?
What are you passionate about? Reading, baseball (love the Cubs!), taking pictures and crafting
What is your favorite color?
Blues and greens and deep plum purple. I like more muted earth tone colors. The only colors I DON’T like are neons and pastels.
What is your favorite season?
Fall (see longer answer below) and a hypothetically perfect winter-snow, cold but not frigid temps, no ice, roaring fireplaces.
What is your favorite treat?
Oh man. I drink an INSANE amount of coffee, I enjoy many adult beverages (BEER!!! GIN!! WINE!!), chocolate, cookie butter, chips…I’m also a carb addict. I’ve been trying to make healthier food and portion choices, so not too many delectable treats.
What is your favorite scent?
I like fresh, clean scents: Lemon verbena is a good one. I also enjoy some flowery scents as long as they aren’t too heavy. There’s this scent I think is to die for, Pink-Pepperpod by Moulton Brown.
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism?
Anything chocolate. Brownie based, caramel swirls, PB pieces or swirls…all GOOD. I still need to check out some of the Ben & Jerry’s Core flavors.
What do you like to do in your free time moments?
Read, nap, organize things (please note this is different than cleaning for me) running, cooking (which again is different than the food prep slog I do all.damn.day. with the children in the house). I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I’d like to find some fun projects to work on, and I’d love to start knitting again and learning more than just the knit and purl stitches. I like chatting with my friends, drinking coffee, admiring others’ crafty ventures.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway?
Unloading the dishwasher, especially the silverware drawer. Getting up in the morning, as I’m not a morning person.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy?
Makeup? Jewelry? Shoes? It depends on how much the amount was. I hit 30 and it’s like my body decided to start the aging process in full force, so I’m suddenly taking an interest in things like anti-aging creams and makeup so I don’t look so haggard. I’d say books, but I have a pile of over 100 to work through, so I’m trying to be on a book-buying hiatus. Pens! I love pens! Home decor stuff, craft supplies, clothes. I’ve bought one of those Fab Fit Fun boxes recently (similar idea as the CDP, really) and was super pleased with the items. I’m thinking next time I have extra money I might do the PopSugar Must Have box.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office?
Not really. I’m actually making an effort this year to work on some decor. Our office has sort of a nature theme. I’m partial to MCM design styles. I love clean lines and the uncluttered look.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt’s Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc….)
Beer and gin and wine. Penguins. Books. Spill-proof coffee mugs. My close friends. Tote bags and pouches and notebooks and washi tape and organizing things (really. Can I organize your closets?).
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.)
A book light. I love to read late into the night, but the light bothers my husband. I’d sometimes get up to go read elsewhere, so the light wouldn’t bother him. He randomly got a book light for me one time so I could read amid the comfort of my bed (one of my favorite places).
What is your favorite color? Purple, red, jewel tones.
What is your favorite season? Fall
What is your favorite treat? Dark chocolate, peanut butter, ice cream, cereal, popcorn, KIND bars, Kettle brand chips, Justin's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Milk Duds, cake, cheese, LaCroix water

If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Makeup, jewelry, massage, mani/pedi.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Not really. We're pretty minimal in regards to "stuff" and don't like knickknacks.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Ice cream, makeup, music, a quiet moment to myself.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? 1) My MIL found a note my husband had written me in first grade (homework assignment). She framed it and gave it to me as a gift. 2) My husband recorded himself saying "I love you" and 3D printed the audio into earrings.

What is your favorite coping mechanism? Sleep. Reading. Netflix. Painting my nails. Exercise. Walking in nature. Talking with friends.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? I love disappearing into really good fictional worlds in books (Mostly kindle!) I like walking, puttering in shops, exercising. Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? We're still wrapping up a big remodel/addition project so most of our rooms are a blank slate. Walls are all shades of grey/blue grey/navy. I like bright colors in small doses (we have the famous multi-color Twitter rug so maybe not such small doses). A friend described our style as "modern farmhouse" and I think that's fairly accurate.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) Regular Coke, pretty stationery, stud earrings, fonts/colors (I love flipping through Pantone decks), my home state of Minnesota
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) When we were first married an American Girl Doll catalog landed in our mailbox. Before I recycled it I offhandedly mentioned to my husband that I'd always wanted one of the dolls when I was young but I knew they were expensive so I never asked for one. That Christmas, months after the conversation, he gave me Kit. When I asked him why he chose her he said he went with the one that looked the most like me. It was the best because it was an incredibly thoughtful surprise.
What are you passionate about? Outside of my family I'm still trying to figure this one out.
What are (some or all) of your favorite books and/or authors? It's hard to narrow it down, but I love biographies. I'm really interested in people (i.e., nosy).
What is your favorite color? - Purple. Also blue and green.
What is your favorite season? - Fall or spring. Fall has my birthday and the return of baked goods, but after a long winter I am REALLY excited for spring.

Currently I run at the gym while listening to podcasts a few mornings per week.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? - Kindle books where the wait list from the library is eons long. Silver colored pretty earrings or necklaces. Lunch out somewhere (even fast food) so I don't have to pack a lunch one day.

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) - I have a lot of frog things. I like small fidgety crafts, like those random craft kits you might give to a ten year old, Barnes and Noble used to carry a lot of those. Time management iPhone games. In the winter I really enjoy candles.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) - A poster of my favorite obscure movie (Cinema Paradiso), a custom Green Bay Packers jersey with my name and my lucky number on it.
What are you passionate about? - My son. I don't know if anything else I love or do rises at all to the level of passion.
What are (some or all) of your favorite books and/or authors? I had to look at my Goodreads account to figure this out, because I have the memory of a gnat sometimes. I read a lot of crime fiction or mystery series books, like Louise Penny or Kathy Reichs or Dorothy Sayers and such. I also read a fair amount of vampire series books, but generally ones with a fair amount of ass-kicking and not just schmoopy romance (Vampire Academy, Dead Witch Walking, Halfway to the Grave, etc.) The books I've rated the highest of all time look to be The Glass Castle, Bee Season, Devil in the White City, Time Traveler's Wife, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I like a lot of the general fiction stories that the Ladies Internet recommends: Where'd You Go, Bernadette?, Woman in Cabin 10, The Lake House, etc.
What is your favorite color? - Anything bright. Lately I tend towards teals and cooler colours, but really anything bright.
What is your favorite season? - Summer for sure.

Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Not really a theme, but I gravitate toward simple, basic decorating. The colours in my house run from neutral grey to blues and teals.
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Fun socks, crocheting, music.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? A huge family picture my husband had blown up and printed on a canvas in secret.
What are you passionate about? - Netflix. I mean, I kid a little, but lately it's hard to have the energy to be passionate about anything except sleep or TV. Or crocheting.
What are (some or all) of your favorite books and/or authors? I like Margaret Atwood, John Irving, Ann Patchett, Barbara Kingsolver, CS Lewis... But I don't do as much reading as I wish I did.
Favourite colour? Red or orange, for household things. I have a fair amount of blue & green in my closet though, and a bit of purple. Almost all my scarves are green, strangely. I need to branch out in the closet dept, I think. I prefer bright colours over pastels.
Favourite season? Autumn, hands down. It has Halloween, which I LOVE. But winter is great too - all the twinkly holiday lights, glittery decorations, and the sparkly snow, ahhhh. So pretty.
Favourite treat? Peanut M&Ms or ice cream. Or ice cream on apple crisp. Or anything caramel, toffee, or coconut flavoured. I like milk chocolate but not dark chocolate (I’m a super-taster, so anything that other perceive as slightly bitter registers as DEFCON LEVEL bitter to me and I want to spit it out. This includes brussels sprouts, coffee, gin, tonic, dark chocolate, hoppy beer, etc.)
Favourite scent? Anything citrusy or vanilla-based. Nothing floral - I often like men’s cologne more than women’s perfume because of that.
Favourite coping mechanism? Brownies. Ice cream. Books or crafts. Michaels is my downfall. I have recently acquired many nice pens/markers and several adult colouring books and that is a nice way to de-stress.
In my free time, I make greeting cards so card stock & pretty papers and such things are fun to play with (see Michaels comment above). I read blogs/Twitter - though not as much as I used to, now that my kids are older. I like books, cute kitchen trinkets, holiday decor for any/all holidays, cute stuff for my kids (girl born in 2008, boy born in 2006); baking - I looove baking. In the summer, we go camping/hiking a lot.
I do NOT enjoy cleaning, but have to do it anyway. I especially don't like cleaning up after my husband who is old enough to freaking do it himself!
If I had to spend money on some frivolous things for me, I'd likely spend it on makeup or scarves, stationery/pens, random stuff at Michael’s. I like things that help to organize other things - containers, tins, etc. If it were lots of money, I'd buy jewelry. Costume jewelry, real jewelry, doesn't matter. I love it all!
Decorating themes? Nope, I have none. Eclectic, I guess you could say? It’s funny, because in individual things, I am drawn to modern/sleek, but when I see a room decorated like that, it always seems sterile and uninviting, and that’s not what I want! But what I DO love is decorating for holidays: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, etc. LOVE IT.
Something that I really really like - other than Diet Coke and Earl Grey tea? I am a giant Harry Potter fan, a big Disney fan, Star Trek > Star Wars, Dr. Who. I’m basically a big giant nerd.
Favourite TV shows these days: Grey’s Anatomy, Bull, Pure Genius (cancelled - waaaah), Big Bang Theory. Favourite older shows: Friends, Buffy, Angel, We don’t get cable channels so no Showcase/HBO for me.
The VERY BEST present ever? Books about Richard Feynman & Albert Einstein, from my husband, just as we started dating. (Yes, I'm a science geek. I have a Ph.D. in molecular genetics & do cancer research at work.) It was the best present ever because Leo had obviously paid attention to what I like and was interested in. Presents now, after 17 years of marriage, are almost always practical things off a wish list. So good presents are surprise presents…much like a CDP!
What am I passionate about? Education (especially for girls), health care (especially women’s health issues), my kids
Favourite books/authors: That is a hard question because I read so much. Harry Potter, hands down. David Eddings. Sci-fi/fantasy are my usual favourites. Susan Mallery, for fluffy romances. :) I do like to read fun, chick-lit sorts of books. I just want something not too depressing or real - I read to escape my drudgery-filled life, so I am not interested in reading about a world/life that is WORSE than mine! I'm not a fan of family saga types of books, although I do LOVE Maeve Binchy which is odd as that's not my usual type of book.
