Almost all my scarves are green, strangely. I need to branch out in the closet dept, I think. I prefer bright colours over pastels.

Favourite season? Autumn, hands down. It has Halloween, which I LOVE. But winter is great too - all the twinkly holiday lights, glittery decorations, and the sparkly snow, ahhhh. So pretty.

Favourite treat? Peanut M&Ms or ice cream. Or ice cream on apple crisp. Or anything caramel, toffee, or coconut flavoured. I like milk chocolate but not dark chocolate (I’m a super-taster, so anything that other perceive as slightly bitter registers as DEFCON LEVEL bitter to me and I want to spit it out. This includes brussels sprouts, coffee, gin, tonic, dark chocolate, hoppy beer, etc.)

Favourite scent? Anything citrusy or vanilla-based. Nothing floral - I often like men’s cologne more than women’s perfume because of that.

Favourite coping mechanism? Brownies. Ice cream. Books or crafts. Michaels is my downfall. I have recently acquired many nice pens/markers and several adult colouring books and that is a nice way to de-stress.

In my free time, I make greeting cards so card stock & pretty papers and such things are fun to play with (see Michaels comment above). I read blogs/Twitter - though not as much as I used to, now that my kids are older. I like books, cute kitchen trinkets, holiday decor for any/all holidays, cute stuff for my kids (girl born in 2008, boy born in 2006); baking - I looove baking. In the summer, we go camping/hiking a lot.

I do NOT enjoy cleaning, but have to do it anyway. I especially don't like cleaning up after my husband who is old enough to freaking do it himself!

If I had to spend money on some frivolous things for me, I'd likely spend it on makeup or scarves, stationery/pens, random stuff at Michael’s. I like things that help to organize other things - containers, tins, etc. If it were lots of money, I'd buy jewelry. Costume jewelry, real jewelry, doesn't matter. I love it all!

Decorating themes? Nope, I have none. Eclectic, I guess you could say? It’s funny, because in individual things, I am drawn to modern/sleek, but when I see a room decorated like that, it always seems sterile and uninviting, and that’s not what I want! But what I DO love is decorating for holidays: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, etc. LOVE IT.

Something that I really really like - other than Diet Coke and Earl Grey tea? I am a giant Harry Potter fan, a big Disney fan, Star Trek > Star Wars, Dr. Who. I’m basically a big giant nerd.

Favourite TV shows these days: Grey’s Anatomy, Bull, Pure Genius (cancelled - waaaah), Big Bang Theory. Favourite older shows: Friends, Buffy, Angel, We don’t get cable channels so no Showcase/HBO for me.

The VERY BEST present ever? Books about Richard Feynman & Albert Einstein, from my husband, just as we started dating. (Yes, I'm a science geek. I have a Ph.D. in molecular genetics & do cancer research at work.) It was the best present ever because Leo had obviously paid attention to what I like and was interested in. Presents now, after 17 years of marriage, are almost always practical things off a wish list. So good presents are surprise presents…much like a CDP!

What am I passionate about? Education (especially for girls), health care (especially women’s health issues), my kids

Favourite books/authors: That is a hard question because I read so much. Harry Potter, hands down. David Eddings. Sci-fi/fantasy are my usual favourites. Susan Mallery, for fluffy romances. :) I do like to read fun, chick-lit sorts of books. I just want something not too depressing or real - I read to escape my drudgery-filled life, so I am not interested in reading about a world/life that is WORSE than mine! I'm not a fan of family saga types of books, although I do LOVE Maeve Binchy which is odd as that's not my usual type of book.

Carmenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07080791099321763002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5948053377584888121.post-51689099074121265352017-02-10T18:51:58.902-05:002017-02-10T18:51:58.902-05:00What is your favorite color? - Anything bright. Lately I tend towards teals and cooler colours, but really anything bright.

What is your favorite season? - Summer for sure.

What is your favorite treat? - chocolate chip cookies or brownies or frozen yogurt with popping boba and chocolate crackle.

What is your favorite scent? - Anything light and fresh and citrusy. I don't love warm, earthy, or strong floral stuff like vanilla or lavender.

What is your favorite coping mechanism? - Crocheting and cross-stitching, or driving with loud music.

What do you like to do in your free time moments? - See above.

What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? - Exercising and cleaning bathrooms.

If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? - Probably makeup.

Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Not really a theme, but I gravitate toward simple, basic decorating. The colours in my house run from neutral grey to blues and teals.

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? Fun socks, crocheting, music.

What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? A huge family picture my husband had blown up and printed on a canvas in secret.

What are you passionate about? - Netflix. I mean, I kid a little, but lately it's hard to have the energy to be passionate about anything except sleep or TV. Or crocheting.

What are (some or all) of your favorite books and/or authors? I like Margaret Atwood, John Irving, Ann Patchett, Barbara Kingsolver, CS Lewis... But I don't do as much reading as I wish I did.Faithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01784495666056086967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5948053377584888121.post-69081142665502346132017-02-03T14:03:02.893-05:002017-02-03T14:03:02.893-05:00What is your favorite color? - Purple. Fall has my birthday and the return of baked goods, but after a long winter I am REALLY excited for spring.

What is your favorite treat? - Buttered popcorn, molassas cookies, those Brookside things that are basically chocolate covered fruit snacks, junior mints, milk duds.

What is your favorite scent? - Vanilla or lilac.

What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism? - Ben and Jerry's Triple Caramel Chunk.

What do you like to do in your free time moments? - Read on my Kindle, bake or cook, nap, watch mindless TV, logic puzzles, or jigsaw puzzles, work on cross-stitch, and I'm learning to crochet.

What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? - Exercising. I am never going to be one of those people who feels energized and better after exercising, but I would also like to be one of those people who doesn't die at the age of 45, so I make myself exercise as much as I can. Currently I run at the gym while listening to podcasts a few mornings per week.

If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? - Kindle books where the wait list from the library is eons long. Silver colored pretty earrings or necklaces. Lunch out somewhere (even fast food) so I don't have to pack a lunch one day.

Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? No, I'm pretty much a disaster at decorating.

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) - I have a lot of frog things. I like small fidgety crafts, like those random craft kits you might give to a ten year old, Barnes and Noble used to carry a lot of those. Time management iPhone games. In the winter I really enjoy candles.

What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) - A poster of my favorite obscure movie (Cinema Paradiso), a custom Green Bay Packers jersey with my name and my lucky number on it.

What are you passionate about? - My son. I don't know if anything else I love or do rises at all to the level of passion.

What are (some or all) of your favorite books and/or authors? I had to look at my Goodreads account to figure this out, because I have the memory of a gnat sometimes. I read a lot of crime fiction or mystery series books, like Louise Penny or Kathy Reichs or Dorothy Sayers and such. I also read a fair amount of vampire series books, but generally ones with a fair amount of ass-kicking and not just schmoopy romance (Vampire Academy, Dead Witch Walking, Halfway to the Grave, etc.) The books I've rated the highest of all time look to be The Glass Castle, Bee Season, Devil in the White City, Time Traveler's Wife, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I like a lot of the general fiction stories that the Ladies Internet recommends: Where'd You Go, Bernadette?, Woman in Cabin 10, The Lake House, etc.Anne - AnnabelleSpeakshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13362245162486431727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5948053377584888121.post-62210134092832032612017-01-13T01:07:20.792-05:002017-01-13T01:07:20.792-05:00It was fun (and a little overwhelming) to read thr...It was fun (and a little overwhelming) to read through so many of these! Such great stuff.

What is your favorite color? Yellow

What is your favorite season? Spring

What is your favorite treat? French fries or potato chips (I like savory over sweet.)

What is your favorite scent? Citrus

What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism? Mint Chocolate Chip or anything vanilla with stuff mixed in.

What do you like to do in your free time moments? Stare off into space? :) Social media, play Cookie Jam, read/listen to audiobooks, embroidery

What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? Clean. It just feels like a never ending cycle and I'm picky and slow when I do it.

If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Craft supplies. Makeup. Books. Manicure or Pedicure. Kitchen towels. Fancy cleaning supplies (they help with the above).

Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? We're still wrapping up a big remodel/addition project so most of our rooms are a blank slate. Walls are all shades of grey/blue grey/navy. I like bright colors in small doses (we have the famous multi-color Twitter rug so maybe not such small doses). A friend described our style as "modern farmhouse" and I think that's fairly accurate.

Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) Regular Coke, pretty stationery, stud earrings, fonts/colors (I love flipping through Pantone decks), my home state of Minnesota

What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) When we were first married an American Girl Doll catalog landed in our mailbox. Before I recycled it I offhandedly mentioned to my husband that I'd always wanted one of the dolls when I was young but I knew they were expensive so I never asked for one. That Christmas, months after the conversation, he gave me Kit. When I asked him why he chose her he said he went with the one that looked the most like me. I like autumn and spring (pretty equally)
What is your favorite treat? Any peanut butter based candy.
What is your favorite scent? Natural/flower scents (gardenia, rose, etc)
What is your favorite ice cream coping mechanism? haagen dazs.
What do you like to do in your free time moments? I play a lot of candy crush. I walk a lot. I enjoy online shopping for other people. I enjoy cocktails. Outdoors things. Activities that involve zero people talking to me. Reading.
What do you not enjoy doing, and why, but have to do anyway? I do not enjoy working out, but I persevere. I hate meetings. I hate talking on the phone.
If someone gave you money with the instruction that you had to spend it on something frivolous for yourself, what would you buy? Clothes, shoes, tiny things that look nice on a windowsill, makeup/beauty stuff. Oh maybe I'd go out to eat! Or treat myself to a fancy coffee.
Do you have any decorating themes in your home/office? Not really. My china pattern is blue willow (as purchased at various thrift stores)
Is there something that you REALLY, REALLY like? (Burt's Bees, horses, cats, fairies, unicorns, birds, patriotic stuff, babies, chocolate, Diet Coke, etc....) I have been loving foxes and woodland creatures lately.
What is the VERY! BEST! present you have ever received and why was it the best? (The purpose of this question is to give people another idea of the sorts of things that make you happy.) I don't knoooooow this is so hard to answer. My sister always gets me great books. My favorite books are YA (but like, GOOD YA, y'know?). My mom once bought me a super overpriced fancy hairbrush (Mason Pearson) and it's amazing. And a great present because I would never buy it for myself.
What are you passionate about? I honestly don't know if I'm passionate about anything at all. I really like my kids/family. I love browsing (thrift stores, libraries, etc). I really like to eat?
What are (some or all) of your favorite books and/or authors? I love YA books. Is this book actually geared towards a 16yo girl? Yes? I probably love it. I LOVE the Daughter of Smoke and Bone books. Hmm.
Jenny Gracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12943823729806115657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5948053377584888121.post-77610201368589916102016-07-16T16:39:33.314-04:002016-07-16T16:39:33.314-04:00I've saved this post for a while, and since I&...I've saved this post for a while, and since I'm having a godawfull day, maybe finally answering will cheer me up as well. Here's hoping.

I'm a general practitioner (in Germany, so bear with me if I misspell or slaughter grammar). Quite a few years ago, a patient of ours ame to us with his wife. She was the patient, he was fine. While waiting for her to be treated, he fell off his chair in the waiting room with a heart attack. What are the f-ing chances to have a heart attack at your doctors office? Crazy. Anyway, I was pretty bew to family practice, having spent the previous 2 years regularly working shifts at a cardio intensive care unit. I treated him according to standard procedure, really very easy, if you know what to do. It always seems like magic to the patients, but it's really not exactly rocket science. His ECG normalized before the paramedics showed up to take him to the hospital, which is obviously a good sign.

Fast forward to a few weeks later. My nurses told mme to go to one of my colleagues rooms, because someone wanted to see me. This is very unusual, and since he wasn't my patient directly, I didn't even recognize him ar first. It turns out that pretty much everybody from the paramedics, to the cath lab, to the ICU, to the peripheral ward, to rehab had told him how lucky he was to have gotten such excellent primary care. Again, I don't think I did much except follow procedure, but there you go.

He obviously tried to thank ne, but couldn't, tears welling up in his eyes. This 80-something year old man just ended up taking my hand in both of his and bowing to me in tears. Then he walked out without another word.

It was one of the most moving moments in 14 years as a doctor, and still keeps me going on rough days 10 years later.

Maybe my day isn't so bad, compared to his back then. Thanks for letting me share.MVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11286488455515883424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5948053377584888121.post-1126497658138744112016-06-20T12:43:37.436-04:002016-06-20T12:43:37.436-04:00I don't remember how I found out about the CDP...I don't remember how I found out about the CDP exchanges, but I'm so glad that I got it on it. I've done it twice and have found 2 very rewarding relationships on twitter because of it. I practiced caring for melisdramatic and shrinkingbeth just so that I could be an encouraging voice in their feed and now they're my friends!
You are an excellent facilitator of love. You show admirable restraint when sharing about difficult times in your life (I never learned the appropriate boundaries there). I find a kindred spirit in your tweets that just makes me love you more.
Good luck fighting the dementors. I think anything that shows someone was really paying attention to what I might like. My most recent favorite gifts are an "L" charm from my husband for a necklace I have with my other kids' initials and a "coupon" from my parents for them to take my kids for a weekend so that my husband and I can have some time together.

What are you passionate about?
Writing, reading, inclusion of those with special needs (my son has Down syndrome), and keeping babies healthy and loved (I'm a NICU nurse)

What are (some or all) of your favorite books and/or authors?
Jane Austen, C.S.
